Thank you for stopping by... I'm Paula.
After a long career as a marketing manager, I retrained as a cake decorator and then as a pastry chef before launching Lavender Garden Bakery from our home in 2020. The idea was to offer bespoke cakes and cupcakes, but our macarons were in such demand that we held regular stalls at local farmers' and community markets.
Alongside my role as the baker here, I also worked part-time as a playworker at a local school, which is where I realised that my real passion is in helping children with kitchen confidence and cookery skills.
A professional coach since 2004, I decided to move away from the bespoke bakes and, instead, offer baking and cookery workshops in our home classroom. The first of our new style children's workshops ran in October 2023 and we became Lavender Garden Cookery School. We have hosted many junior chefs since then and are very proud of the regular feedback we receive to say that the children have a great time at our workshops and really look forward to coming back to us again.
Our junior chefs are also supported during the sessions by Kevin and/or Anne, who both have experience working with young people and hold enhanced DBS checks.
